The Southern Pacific railroad arrived in Tucson in 1880 and the bustling Armory Park neighborhood grew rapidly due to its proximity to the railroad. Today, the neighborhood still offers wide avenues and a variety of architectural styles including Greek Revival, Queen Anne, Victorian and Anglo-Territorial. As a testament to the neighborhood's significance, it was the second residential district in the country to be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
